TimeBanker Carol Davis will share her continuing journey toward a zero(ish) waste lifestyle, which has cut the volume of what she sends to the landfill by a huge amount, saved her money, and made her healthier and happier along the way! Carol will share tips and tricks to taking stock of your own waste stream, and will offer practical advice about how to get started, including some lessons she’s learned along the way. In addition to being a TimeBanker, Carol is the Sustainability Manager for the Town of Blacksburg, Virginia. In this role, she works on a broad range of sustainability issues, including: climate mitigation, adaptation and resiliency planning; alternative transportation; land use policies that advance green building and affordable housing; local and state energy policy; aging-in-place; water quality; and stewardship of public lands. In her spare time, Ms. Davis enjoys volunteering with the Poverty Creek Trails Coalition. She currently serves on the boards of Sustainable Blacksburg, and the VT Center for Communicating Science, and is an alumni advisor for Alpha Phi Omega, a gender inclusive service fraternity at Virginia Tech.
Carol will present for 1 hour and share some real samples of best practices and this time will be followed by audience "show and tell." Please bring your ideas, tips, hacks and ways you reduce your use of plastic!
