Hello Fellow TimeBankers. I was approached by Seth to see if anyone might be willing to clean out their closets, attics or garages this October and donate some extra items that you don’t need to the PACT Program that serves New River Valley mental health patients. Here is a note from Seth with more details.
‘Dear generous TimeBankers! We need your help! Avery Morrison and I [in coordination with the Unitarian Universalist Church of Blacksburg and the PACT Program for mental health in Blacksburg] are conducting a 'scavenger hunt' to join items that you may consider throwing away from your closets, attics or garages to those truly in need who are mentally ill and part of the PACT Program for mental health. The PACT Program serves some 60 clients who often have as little as $5 a month left over per month after they pay their bills, and they could really use things you might consider tossing: such as blenders, tools, comforters, old TVs and things most of us take for granted. Really large things that cannot fit in an SUV we cannot take. Please clean the items that you give away.
Thank you for your kind hearts in this much-needed circumstance! And please know, people with mental illnesses are just like you, but with a disease of the brain. It is stultifying to try to survive in these conditions on top of having a mental illness. Thank you!!’
Seth has provided me with a List of Needs. Examples are baking sheets, cooking pots, and other utensils. Bathroom mats and towels. Trash cans, ironing boards and other cleaning supplies. Personal hygiene items are also needed. They are hoping to collect donations on October 28th. If anyone is interested in helping, I can provide a full list of needs upon request. I can also arrange a drop off time at TimeBank Central Command if you have anything you’d like to leave with me.
