Ever wondered how to quickly update the value of your home without a huge investment or the agony of hiring a contractor? Got floors that have seen better days?
Here's an opportunity to learn the art and science of installing porcelain tile floors while working side by side with an experienced handywoman. I've got all the equipment and materials to get the job done. You bring a desire to learn, clothes you don't mind getting dirty, and gloves/safety glasses/hearing protection. I can provide safety gear for you to borrow if you don't have your own.
The job is a small bathroom at a home outside Christiansburg. Plan is to prep and install tile on Saturday, July 21 and then grout the evening of the 22nd. You'll learn how to prepare a floor for tiling, install a proper substrate, mix mortar to the right consistency, lay out a pattern, and cut and set tile. On the second day, you'll learn how to prepare the tile for grouting, mix grout to the proper consistency, grout the tile, finish the joints, clean up, and reinstall plumbing fixtures.
Expect approximately 5 hours of work on Saturday and 2 hours on Sunday evening. Hours negotiable, both number for exchange and timing of work sessions (with some limitations).
